Lost Horizon
Destined to rank amongst the adventure classics, Lost Horizon is an old fashioned boys' own adventure with a movie-like storyline spanning numerous exotic locations. Couple this with a captivating soundtrack and stunning graphics and you have the sort of game that's guaranteed to hold universal appeal for adventure fans. If you're in the mood for a rip-roaring tale of epic proportions, Lost Horizon will not disappoint.
Heaven
Described by the game's developers as "the first of its kind", Heaven is a spectacularly colourful, immersive adventure in which you play as 'adventurous astronaut Commander Joshua'. On arriving in Heaven Joshua is guided through amazing landscapes and assisted in solving numerous puzzles by his beautiful guide, Axis. The stunning environments alone make this game well worth a look. It can be purchased HERE.
Mad Orange is the name of an Italian game development company that will probably be unfamiliar to many people. To some extent that's due to the fact they've only been in existence since 2008 but also because, in that time, they've been working away feverishly on their intriguing 1930's film noir -style adventure game, Face Noir: The Cat With Jade Eyes. Don't be fooled by their 'new boys on the block' feel however. Face Noir promises to be an adventure game demostrating very high standards of craftmanship indeed. From what we've seen and heard thus far (trailer HERE), Face Noir looks and sounds just great. And with a jazz soundtrack, the promise of non-linear gameplay and a highly evocative 1930's atmosphere, this adventure looks certain to be one that will be snapped up from the shelves as fast as you can say Sam Spade!

Toonstruck
Toonstruck is a wonderful point and click adventure game made by Burst Studios back in 1996. It features the considerable acting talents of Christopher Lloyd (Taxi, Back To The Future, etc.), who appears as an actual video-captured representation of himself. Lloyd's character, the main protagonist, is frustrated and exasperated cartoon animator, Drew Blanc. Blanc is the original creator of the Fluffy Fluffy Bun Bun Show and, although a great success, Blanc is utterly sick to the teeth of his annoyingly cute creations. Under pressure to create even more 'cuteness' the depressed Blanc nods off, suffering from artist's block, only to wake up the next morning to inexplicably find himself transported into the same sickeningly cute 2-dimensional world that he himself has created. Toonstruck is an absolute treat to play and one that shoud be on everyone's radar. The original Toonstruck website still exists in all its finery HERE, and the game itself can, with some effort, still be found on various game trading sites.
Cubert Badbone P.I.
Made by Deirdra Kiai back in 2002, when she was only 16 years old, and a game for which she says she still receives occasional fan mail. A short, but very entertaining freeware adventure featuring P.I. Cubert Badbone in his quest to investigate the mysterious disappearance of the human tourists on Ekrat Island. With a great jazzy soundtrack and some neat puzzles, Cubert Badbone P.I. is well worth a look. HERE.

Metamorphoses (by Emily Short)
. . is a remarkably well conceived text adventure with a wonderfully dark and mysterious story. The puzzles are ingeniously conceived and, whilst not the easiest you may come across in a modern day text adventure, are solvable in many different ways and are incredibly satisfying to figure out. Another very nice touch is that Metamorphoses has multiple endings. "You wake to stillness. The hammering, banging, and shouting that kept you awake half the night are gone. The air is cold, and something smells burnt. Your master's experiments must be finished, but with what result?" Metamorphoses is free to play by download or online and is a 'must play' for any text adventure fan.
